A mayor exposición prenatal e infantil a pesticidas mayor el aumento de trastorno del espectro autista en niños confirma nuevo estudio.

Exposición prenatal e infantil a pesticidas ambientales y trastorno del espectro autista en niños
Este estudio incluyó a 38,000 personas, con 2961 casos de autismo. Los científicos descubrieron que las mujeres que estaban embarazadas y que vivían dentro de un radio de 2.000 metros de un área rociada con pesticidas tenían entre un 10% y un 16% más de probabilidades de tener niños diagnosticados con autismo que las mujeres que vivían en lugares más alejados de las áreas rociadas.
Cuando observaron los diagnósticos también habia casos que tenían discapacidades intelectuales, encontraron en promedio tasas un 30% más altas entre los niños que fueron expuestos a los pesticidas mientras estaban en el útero. La exposición en el primer año de vida aumentó el riesgo de autismo hasta en un 50% en comparación con las personas no expuestas a ciertos pesticidas.

Stephanie Seneff es investigadora científica senior en el Laboratorio de Informática e Inteligencia Artificial del MIT. Ella recibió el B.S. Licenciado en Biofísica en 1968, el M.S. y E.E. Grados en Ingeniería Eléctrica en 1980, y el Doctorado en Ingeniería Eléctrica y Ciencias de la Computación en 1985, todos del MIT. Durante más de tres décadas, sus intereses de investigación siempre han estado en la intersección de la biología y la computación: desarrollar un modelo computacional para el sistema auditivo humano, comprender el lenguaje humano para desarrollar algoritmos y sistemas para las interacciones de la computadora humana, así como aplicar el lenguaje natural Técnicas de procesamiento (PNL) a las predicciones genéticas. Ella ha publicado más de 170 artículos arbitrados sobre estos temas, y ha sido invitada a dar discursos magistrales en varias conferencias internacionales.
